Vienna is becoming more and more the place to be, to find new talents in the fashion scene. Next to Magdalena Adriane and Benjamin Quirico, I also met Sophie Skach while I was in Vienna for the Opening of the Summer of Fashion at the Museumsquartier.
Sophie Skach is one of a kind. Next to studying Fashion at the Fashion Insitute Vienna she also is studying Mathematics at the Technical University of Vienna. Before that she specialized in Knitwear Design and worked as an Intern at Geiger, an Austrian knitwear design company. After another internship at the well-known crystal manufacturer Swarovski and starting in fall she will attend the MA Fashion Design Technology Menswear at the London Collage of Fashion. She already showed her work at the Tokyo Fashion Week, at the Premiere Vision exhibition in Paris or at a Symposium in Germany. Next to studying and making huge steps showing her work, she also wins one award after another – the latest was the ACF Award in Vienna, during the 12festival for fashion and photography.
The most interesting part about Sophie as a designer is, that she is working with mathematics and natural science while creating a new collection. For example, she created a fabric, that inherits scented molecules, which burst while moving it. Also her view on details is phenomenal. When I met her, I was able to actually feel a coat Sophie made. The woolen texture, the embellished and embroidered Hummingbirds on it and the fit itself really impressed me.
