H&M x Maison Martin Margiela

After a night of hoping it would’nt be true I got the confirmation this morning: Maison Martin Margiela left the throne of High Fashion to design a Collection for the swedish Fashion-Store H&M. This is a sad moment for the industry.

Maison Martin Margiela x H&M

Although I enjoy what H&M does for the fashion market, I did not expect this whole “Guest Designer”-Thing to get out of control. Maison Martin Margiela always has been an independent and trendsetting Label to me and they are doing well – very well actually. Which is why I don’t understand, how a big and healthy label like that can so easily agree to such a collaboration with H&M. It was something different when Karl Lagerfeld decided to go cheap chic in 2004, but after several collaborations with big shots such as Viktor & Rolf or Comme des Garçons, it just got boring and what is even more nervewrecking – a sign that the Label, which agrees to work with H&M is not worth to be named along with high quality fashion labels like Chanel or Louis Vuitton anymore.
